Bernice J. Hoch, age 100, a resident of West Chicago, IL, died August 5, at home with her family. She was born to William and Lea Niederer on June 4, 1914 in Madison, WI.
She graduated from Poynette High School in Poynette WI, and started her work life as a nanny in Chicago. Bernice met the love of her life at the Wisconsin State Fair. After a four year courtship Bernice and Charles were married and moved to Berwyn IL. Together they worked at Klas' Bohemian Restaurant in Cicero. Eventually they purchased that restaurant and owned it until they retired. For the last 21 years of her life, Bernice lived with Shirley and Mark. She was excited to reach her goal of 100 years…one of the best days of her life.
Bernice is survived by her daughter, Shirley (Mark) Manzi of West Chicago; brothers, Dennis (Julia) Hayes of Lakeland, FL; John (Frances) Hayes of Union Grove, WI and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Charles Hoch; her brother, William (Dorothy) Niederer; and her sister, Clara (William) Heidewald.
A visitation will be held August 11, from 3 to 7pm at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N Main Wheaton. A funeral mass will be held August 12, at 10:00 am at Corpus Christi Catholic Church 1415 Lies Road, in Carol Stream. Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, Illinois.
