Bernard James Schaffer, age 70, a resident of Wheaton, IL, died August 19, 2024, in Manhattan, New York.  He was born January 9, 1954 in Spokane, Washington to Herbert and Elaine Schaffer.

Bernie lived in Wheaton for 30 years and worked in software as a consultant at multiple firms including Oracle, SSA, and QAD until retiring in 2024.

He was an active member of Wheaton Bible Church. He and his wife, Beth were active in various small groups for many years. He also volunteered at the church as a Sunday School teacher and as a mentor at Puento del Pueblo. He achieved a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a Master of Arts in Education at Western Washington University, as well as an MBA in Operations Management/Logistics at University of Washington.

Bernie will be especially remembered for his love of antique cars, his enthusiasm for University of Washington football, and most importantly being a devoted father, husband, and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Beth Schaffer of Wheaton, and children, Will (Clare Richardson-Barlow), Sarah, and Richard, as well as his brothers Robert Schaffer (Cathy) and William Allen Schaffer (Katherine). Bernie was preceded in death by his father Herbert Paul Schaffer (2008), his mother Elaine Marilyn Schaffer (2009), and his sister Rebecca Schaffer (2012).

A memorial service will be held at Hultgren Funeral Home in Wheaton Illinois at 7:00pm on Saturday, August 24. Family and friends are invited to visit with the family from 6:00pm until the time of service.
