Barbara A. Shimmel, age 82, a resident of Carol Stream, went home to be with the Lord, suddenly on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at home.  She was born November 3, 1932 in Rush, Pennsylvania, the last of twelve children born to Joseph and Annie Buckeye.

Barbara grew up in Osceola Mills, Pennsylvania and graduated from Osceola Mills High School in 1950.  She met Patrick Shimmel while he was serving in the U.S.Navy.  They were married on July 2, 1952.  In 1955, they moved their young family to Miami, Florida, where they raised three children and where she worked as a caregiver for seniors.

Barbara had an artist's soul.  She enjoyed entertaining, baking, sculpting, drawing, writing songs and singing.  She loved her family and was devoted to her grandchildren.  She delighted in life with a childlike heart. Her Christian faith was the foundation of her life. She esteemed others as better than herself.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas Patrick (Dinora) Shimmel Jr. of Miami, FLorida and Sean (Jennifer) Shimmel of Carol Stream, seven grandchildren, Philip, Lanai, Taimari, Jamison, Connor, Cassandra and Chandler.   She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick and one daughter, Johneen Ann Shimmel.

Services will be held privately.  Private interment will be held at St. Andrew Cemetery in Saginaw, Michigan.
