Barbara J. Laing, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at 7:03pm. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her.
Born October 24, 1938, in Berwyn, IL. Barbara was the oldest daughter of Charles H. and Arabelle G. Peterson. She met her husband Leslie P. Laing at a Presbyterian church dance in fall of 1965 and was married April 8, 1967, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, faith.
Barbara was a devoted mother. She raised two children with the kind of patience that made every child feel like the most important person in the world. Her home was neat, inviting, filled with the smell of freshly baked brownies or magic bars, and where everyone gathered for the holidays.
Barbara was primarily a homemaker but had several part time jobs as her children were older, some of the companies she worked for were; Chicago Bridge and Iron, Lexington Nursing Home, Embassy Suites, Bally Fitness, and Lombard Bible Church. She was passionate about animals and had several cats as pets. She enjoyed playing the piano, listening to music, dancing, playing games, gardening, and celebrating the holidays with her family. Those who knew her knew how much she loved her sweets; she loved strawberry ice cream, shakes, and shortcake. She loved Hershey’s chocolate bars, jelly filled donuts, sweet rolls and somehow never gained a single pound? (Many of us are so jealous). She lived a simple life, loved God and going to church, loved to go shopping at Kohls, and loved her family. She used to send out cards and letters for special events for family and friends. She had the prettiest blue eyes that sparkled, a warm and inviting smile that could light up a room, and a genuine heart. She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her children: Scott (Barbara) Laing and Steve (Jo Anna Raley) Laing. Her grandchildren: Hannah (David) Hodge, Raley (Francisco) Flores, and Jack Laing. Her siblings Gaye (Jim) Stasieluk and Pam (Mark) Gotsch. Her nephew, Brandon (Rachel) Stasieluk. Her great-niece, Molly Stasieluk and great-nephew, Connor Stasieluk and many cousins.
Private funeral services will be held Friday, July 24, 2026, at Glen Oak Cemetery in Hillside, IL. Visitation will be held Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Bloomingdale Alliance Church at 264 Glen Ellyn Rd Bloomingdale, IL 60108 at 10am, a celebration of life service at 11am, and lunch served at 12:15pm.
