Barbara L. King, age 72, a longtime resident of Wheaton, died August 26th at home. She was born in Hendersonville, NC, on September 2, 1936.
Barbara had a passion for politics and often did campaign calling and other volunteer work. She was a big supporter of the US Armed Forces. She loved to write short stories. She also enjoyed family reunions, traveling internationally, and cooking for her family. She often found time to remain active in her local church, volunteering at various charity events. In recent years she took great pride in helping to restore the McCarson Family Cemetery in Hendersonville, NC.
She is survived by her children, James R. (Michelle) King of Reno, NV, and Sandra Kay (Robert) Curatola of Rochelle, IL; her grandchildren, Jamie, Robert II, and Jessica Curatola; her brothers, Frank (Elizabeth) Pruitt, Mike (Sheila) Pruitt, Clifford Pruitt, John (Rita) Pruitt, David Pruitt, Mike (Elaine) Henderson, and Gary Green; and her sister, Margaret (Walter) Wyatt.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, James A. King; her parents, John C. and Girtal Pruitt; and two brothers, Ted and Tommy Pruitt.
Services and interment will be held at a later date at the McCarson Family Cemetery in Hendersonville, NC.
