Barbara Y. Hahn, age 84, a longtime resident of Park Ridge and a resident of Monarch Landing in Naperville, died on Tuesday, October 14, 2014. She was born February 12, 1930 in Rosedale, Indiana to Emmer and Florence Yowell.
She graduated from Clinton High School in Clinton, IN and Indiana State Teachers College in Terre Haute, IN. She earned a Masters Degree from the University of Illinois. On July 6, 1963 she married Robert Hahn. They moved to Park Ridge in 1966 where she worked for Maine Township High Schools from 1970 to 1985 as a speech and language therapist. They were active at the First United Methodist Church of Park Ridge and South Park Church.
She was a dedicated and creative teacher, who excelled at meeting the needs of each individual student. She encouraged her students to work hard and prepared them to be contributing members of society.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Hahn, one daughter, Julia (Kurt) Erickson of Wheaton, one brother, Richard (Deloris) Yowell of Naperville, and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 19, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton, where a funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. Friends may visit with the family prior to the service from 10 to 11a.m. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery.
