Obituary

Aurora Loretta Berger, age 94, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 14, 2023.  She was born January 1, 1929 in Newark, New Jersey to Anthony & Carmen Acanfora.

She grew up in and lived the first 38 years of her life in New Jersey just across from New York City.   She excelled in her high school academics and was the lead baton twirler for her high school. Family finances did not permit her to attend college, so she went to work at the Prudential Insurance company rising to the level of the administrative assistant for the Executive Vice President.  In 1950 she married Charles E. Berger who was the life-long love of her life. She devoted many years, as a loving mother, raising her 5 children.  After raising her children, she attended college of DuPage, earning her associates degree in Human Services, and worked for the DuPage County Social Services Department for several years. She also did volunteer work at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Center in Wheaton and Morton Arboretum.

Aurora was an active gardener and was elected President of her local gardening club. She enjoyed playing a variety of sports and activities with her husband, Chuck, including 45+ years as active members of the B.R. Ryall YMCA in Glen Ellyn.  She and Chuck also enjoyed playing tennis, bicycling, downhill and cross-country skiing. She traveled extensively in the US in their travel trailer with all 5 children.  Later in life she enjoyed cruising and sojourns to Hawaii, Alaska and Europe. She was actively engaged with the Wheaton Happy Hoofers club. In 1990 she was awarded as Ms. Senior DuPage County.

She and her husband, Chuck, were in a loving marriage for almost 66 years.  After his passing in 2016, she relocated to Windsor Park, Covenant Living in Carol Stream enjoying her association with the residents where she was often described as "the life of the party" and always a friend to all.

She is survived by her five children: Wayne (Virginia) Berger of Sunset, SC, Dawn (Bill) Seitz of Woodridge, Glenn (Deena) Berger of Mill Valley, CA, Gary (Susan) Berger of McKinney, TX & Gayle (Aaron) Watson of Holly Springs, NC; her 12 grandchildren, Audrey (Andrew) Fahrney, Todd (Chelsea) Berger, Crystal Seitz, Tiffany (Brian) McAnally, William (Mackenzie) Seitz, Stephen (Hope) Seitz, Alexandra Grady, Colton Berger, Jared Berger, Sarah Berger, Matthew Watson & Alek Watson; and her six great-grandchildren.
