Audrey M. Walker, age 84, a longtime resident of Wheaton and Glen Ellyn, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017. She was born April 14, 1933 in Chicago to Theodore and Mary Lawson.
She grew up in Cicero, Illinois and attended Mary Queen of Heaven School. After high school she worked at the Hawthorne Works for Western Electric where she met Jim Walker. They were married on June 7, 1958. They raised their family in Glen Ellyn where she was a homemaker extraordinare. After her husband passed away she re-entered the workforce working for Anaconda/Erikson, the DuPage Board of Realtors, and the DuPage County Sheriff in the records department. She retired in 2007.
Audrey was an avid traveler, reader, and a gourmet cook who loved to decorate and entertain family and friends in her home. She had a keen interest in thoroughbred horse racing. Her four grandchildren were the joy of her life.
She is survived by her children Brian Walker of Winfield, Bruce (Osmara) Walker of Henderson, Nevada, Beth (John) Gambro of Yorkville, and four grandchildren, Winston Gambro, Jack Gambro, Andrew Walker and Farrah Walker. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Walker, her parents and one sister, Dorothy Sullivan.
A visitation will be held on Monday, July 10, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. A funeral service will be held July 11, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 0S233 Church St., Winfield. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
