Audrey Peterson, age 97, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2022.  She was born April 23, 1925 in Manchester, England to Charles & Elsie Wilson.

Audrey had a great love of music & dance. She met her husband, Alfred, at a military dance sponsored by the American Red Cross in Manchester, England during World War II. They were married in 1945 and moved to Chicago shortly after their wedding. Audrey worked for the University of Chicago as a secretary while Alfred worked for a television repair company. They eventually moved to Levittown, New York where they started their family. She was instrumental in encouraging her daughter, Elaine, to begin a lifelong career as a church organist. The Peterson home was located one mile from the Bethpage State Park golf course (Bethpage Black), where she encouraged Alfred and their son, Charlie, to often play golf.

Highlights for Audrey were summer trips back to England, via cross-Atlantic voyages, visiting her British family and introducing her American family to their British roots.

She is survived by her children Elaine (Ed) Meyer & Charles (Ildi) Peterson; her grandchildren Elizabeth (Mike)  Rogers & Ildi Peterson; her great-grandchildren Lily Audrey Rogers & Matthew Alexander Rogers; and her nephew Stephen Locke & niece Diane Locke.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Alfred, who died in 2018; and her sister Shirley (the late Arthur) Locke.

A memorial service will be held at Gary United Methodist Church, 224 N Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187, on June 1, 2022, at 11:00 a.m.
