Anthony P. Badway, 83, a resident of Wheaton, died March 27th at Wynscape Nursing Home in Wheaton. He was born February 5, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan.
Tony graduated from St. Joseph's Commercial College in 1940. He attended Ford Trade School and worked for Ford Motor Company where he made master rods for Pratt and Whitney Airplane Engines used in World War II. He joined the Navy in 1944 and became a ball turret gunner on a TBF bomber off of an aircraft carrier. As a young man, he was a pitcher for the A.S.L.A. Baseball team and also pitched for his Navy team. He liked to strike out his naval officers. After the war, he owned for 25 years, Tony's Market, a grocery store. He was known for his lifelong compassion and generosity toward many people in need. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his children, John (Eva) Badway, Mary L. Badway, Betty Ann (Joe) McQueen, Catherine (Rick) Bennett, and Susan (Dan) Michaud; his grandchildren, Anthony, and Tracee Badway, and Isobel, Alex, and Eloise Michaud; his sisters, Josephine (Mel) Dow, Dolores Bradway, and Anne O'Hara.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mary Louise (nee Jabora); his parents, Backus and Rose Badway; his sisters, Veronica "Betty" Bradway, Amelia Thomas, and Eloise Badway; and his brother, Joseph Badway.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 1st, from 4:00 P.M. until the time of a funeral service at 7:00 P.M. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, with Father John Sponder officiating. Interment will be private.
