Annette M. "Nettie" Metcalf, age 85, a resident of Carol Stream, IL, died Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at the DuPage Convalescent Center in Wheaton, IL. She was born July 20, 1927 in Merrill, WI.
As a child Nettie loved the fact that she excelled when it came to spelling bees and was one of the fastest ice skaters in town. When she was a young woman she enjoyed dancing on-stage with her partner at Appleton High School. She had fond memories and was very proud of her first job as a switchboard operator. In 1947 she started her family in Wisconsin and moved to Wheaton, IL in 1965. The summers spent at the cottage in Michigan were joyful days for her. Nettie loved to crochet,cook, and sew. What brought her the most pride and joy in her life was her family and being able to spend time with them.
She is survived by her children, David Metcalf of Waupaca, WI, Jeannine Lohmiller of Plainfield, IL, Robin (Ron) Lindsey of Wauconda, IL, Tina (Jim) Leindecker of Wheaton, IL, and Heidi (Ray) Atkinson of Warrenville, IL; 14 grandchildren, Anisa (Mike) Cichon and Joshua Metcalf, Erika (Reuben Feliciano) Lohmiller, Camille (Scott) Bergfors, and Lucas (Vicki) Lohmiller, Dan (Jodi) Metcalf, Ron (Elyse) Lindsey, John Sherman (Vita) Lindsey, Tanya Lindsey and Mike Lindsey, Jason (Angela) Leindecker and Adam (Nicole) Leindecker, and Matt (Megan) Atkinson and Ben Atkinson; 16 great-grandchildren; her brother, Ed (Jean) Krause; her sister, Sharon (Ken) Kitzinger; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Erdwin and Gertrude Krause; her former husband, Morgan S. Metcalf, Jr.; her brother, David Krause; her sister, Cleone Rohloff; her brother-in-law, Kenneth Rohloff; her son, Dean Metcalf; her daughter-in-law, Pam Metcalf; and her grandson, Jake Lohmiller.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 21, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m with a memorial service to follow at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. Interment will be private at a later date at Lake View Cemetery in Oshkosh, WI.
