Obituary

Anne Hottell Altman, age 85, a resident of Wheaton, IL, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2024.  She was born September 16, 1938, in Louisville, Kentucky to James and Juanita Hottell.

Anne grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, the eldest of four siblings. Anne developed a great passion for reading and for all things theater. She attended Purdue University to study theater and directing. This is where she met the love of her life, Peter M. Altman. They married in 1961 while attending Purdue. Anne and Peter welcomed five children, eventually settling in Wheaton, Illinois.  Anne continued her post-graduate studies at Illinois Benedictine College, earning her Master's Degree in Library Science.

Anne channeled her love of storytelling and reading by pursuing a career as a teacher-librarian in the Indian Prairie School District, Illinois, as the head librarian for both the Longwood and Plainfield Elementary Schools.  Anne and her school district library colleagues were honored with the National School Library of the Year Award in 1993. Anne retired in 1994. In retirement, Anne and Peter shared their love of the arts by supporting the Youth Symphony of DuPage, Illinois.

Anne is survived by her sisters, Lynne Hottell and Elizabeth ("Patty") Hottell, her brother-in-law Steven (Jenny) Altman, her children Elizabeth Altman, Allison Altman, Leah Nikaidoh, William (Jane) Altman and Alexandar Altman, her grandchildren Constance (Kyle) Roby, James Nikaidoh, Isaac Nikaidoh, Colleen Altman, Max Altman, Michael Altman and Patrick Altman, and one brand new great-grandson, Arthur James Roby.

Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Peter, and her brother James ("Butchie") Hottell.
