Ansel D. "Andy" Nelson, age 90, a longtime resident of Wheaton, IL, died Sunday, April 3, 2016, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. He was born July 28, 1925 in Grove City, MN to George and Selma Nelson.
Andy grew up on a farm in Minnesota. He served in the Army under General George S. Patton during World War II at the age of 19. He loved his country and was a faithful member of both the VFW and American Legion in Wheaton. He was a union carpenter for many years. He was an active member of Gary United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his three children, Brian (Leslie) of Maple Park, Beverly (James) Brown of Wheaton, and Barbara (David) Miller of West Chicago, six grandchildren, Daniel (Michelle) Barna, Adam Miller, Laura (Brian) Herra, Sarah Miller, Stephanie (Chris) Rebone, and Jacob (Kamrey) Miller, and seven great-grandchildren, Andrew, Joseph, Owen, Bentley, Molly, Jaxon and Evie.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; his brothers, Wallace and Delayne Nelson; and his parents.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until the start of a funeral service to be held at 11:00 a.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. Interment will be private at Fairmount Willow Hills Memorial Park in Willow Springs, IL.
