Andrew Benjamin
Smith
April 24, 1980 – May 23, 2021
Andrew Benjamin Smith , beloved son of Harold and Judy Smith of Glenview, IL, died suddenly on Sunday, May 23, in Berlin, Germany. He was 41.
Born in St. Charles, IL and raised in Carol Stream, Andrew (never Andy!) was a gifted and award-winning architect and designer; and recognized worldwide for his creative work in the media of electronic dance music and animation. He had been living and working in Germany's capital for the past three years.
A 1998 graduate of Glenbard North High School, Andrew received his B.A. Degree in Philosophy from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI and a Master of Architecture from Yale University.
A voracious reader with an insatiable curiosity for history, science and the natural world, Andrew was especially fond of travel. From America's national parks to the museums of Europe to the cultures and cuisines of Africa and Asia, Andrew relished the world's diversity and the wonders it offered to those who took time to taste and see.
Those who knew and loved Andrew knew he was a uniquely-crafted individual, an artistic dynamo, a man who was always questioning, always wrestling for answers, and always a fierce and loyal friend.
Andrew is survived by his parents; his brother Kevin and his wife Brenna (Lemieux) and their son Malcolm Albert Smith; and his grandmother Ruth Lapham.
A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 30 from 1:30 p.m. until the time of a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. at the College Church Commons, 332 E. Seminary Ave., Wheaton, Illinois 60187. The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed through this link: https://youtu.be/rfx4pi8OoqA .
