Allison Crittenden (nee Dewey), age 84, a long-time Wheaton resident, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2010, in Wheaton. She was born April 17, 1926, to Genevieve and DeWitt G. Dewey, of Brooklyn, New York.
Mrs. Crittenden was a graduate of Cornell University, where she met her husband, Harold. They were married in 1948 and moved to the Chicago area soon thereafter. A Wheaton-area resident since 1953, she was an active member of First Presbyterian Church where she was ordained as an elder and served in a number of teaching and leadership positions.
She is survived by her husband, Harold C. Crittenden; sons, David D. (Jackie) of McCordsville, Indiana and Charles D. (Julie) of Wheaton; daughters, Holly (Phil) Hofreiter of Rockford, Illinois; Carla (Joe) Dettmer of Overland Park, Kansas, and Jill (Steve) Borchers of Richmond, Indiana; 13 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Jacqueline Brett of Tequesta, Florida; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 715 North Carlton Avenue, Wheaton, IL 60187 (www.firstpreswheaton.org/630-668-5147), on Saturday, May 22, at 2:00 p.m.
