Longtime Wheaton resident Allan Hunter Baker passed away on Friday July 15. He was born in Brooklyn New York in 1922 and was raised during the depression with extended family in Elmira, New York and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He graduated college from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Allan served with the Armed Services during WWII after which he married Claire Zimmerman in Philadelphia and began his career at the Keebler Corporation, retiring in 1989. He served the First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton as a Sunday School teacher, Superintendent, Deacon and Elder. Upon his retirement from Keebler he contributed much of his time to the DuPage Convalescent Center and Meals on Wheels. After his first wife's passing, Allan married Clementine Ferguson Baker in 1992.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Clementine Ferguson Baker; his daughters, Barbara (Stephen) Baker Ayers, and Leslie (Laurence) Baker Gertz; his granddaughters, Alexis Mercurio, and Caitlin Gertz; four step-daughters, Jean Ferguson, Sue Ferguson Walker, Anne Ferguson, and Joan (Howard) Ferguson Young; and five step-grandchildren. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, July 23rd at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton.
