Obituary

Alice K. Sutor, age 46, died unexpectedly in her sleep in her home in West Chicago on Wednesday, January 19, 2017, of complications of coronary artery disease. She was born in Chicago Heights on April 8, 1970, and was adopted by Dr. Benjamin and Sylvia Kietzman as their youngest daughter on July 9th, 1970.  Shortly thereafter the family of six including sons Timothy John and Ralph William, and daughter Sylvia Myrna returned to Kano, Nigeria where Dr. Kietzman began serving as an ophthalmic surgeon, and Sylvia began serving as the blind school superintendent and secondary school Bible teacher in 1959. Alice fared very well from her earliest days in Kano, and received tender care from her loving family with help from two Godly Nigerian pastor's wives, named Aboye Tambaya, and Abu Ishaku. Alice's given middle name was Aboye in memory of her one beautiful caregiver.  At the tender age of six years, Alice was enrolled at the Miango Kent Academy on the central plateau near Jos where her sister, Myrna, and her brother, Ralph, were already attending. Dr. and Mrs. Kietzman visited Kent Academy as often as possible, and Alice became a favorite of the teachers and house parents who tended out on her.

In 1978, Dr. and Mrs. Kietzman retired from service in Nigeria, and Alice continued her primary education at Indian Knoll School near their home on Indian Knoll Rd. West Chicago, and Wheaton Christian Grammar School. Her secondary education was at the Wheaton Academy in West Chicago where she graduated in 1988. Her College career was completed at Judson College in Elgin in 1992, and her graduate work was completed at Trinity University in Deerfield, IL in 1994, where she earned a Master degree in counseling psychology.  She met Manfred Claus Sutor and was happily married to him on 10/7/95. Her daughter, Sylvia Isabel was born on 9/20/97, and her son, Nikolas Paul was born on 7/24/01.  Following her graduation in 1994, she served as a counselor and advocate for adoptive parents. Her work involved detailed home studies and follow up evaluations designed to assure the welfare of the adoptive children she loved so much.
