Alice
Holmes
November 11, 1923 – March 28, 2020
Alice Holmes died on March 28, at 96 years of age in her home in Wheaton. Born in 1923 in Montreal, Canada, she attended London Bible Institute in Ontario before meeting and marrying Arthur Holmes following his service in the RAF during the Second World War. The couple moved to Wheaton where they raised their family and where Arthur would become Professor of Philosophy at Wheaton College. Together, Arthur and Alice devoted their time and talents to the elevation of Christian thought, while also applying their gifts to the enrichment of their church communities. Throughout her life, Alice was a devout believer, an avid reader, gifted writer, and fearless learner. In recent years, Alice applied her insatiable intellect and passion to pursuing God through reading theology and in conversation with friends. She was convinced of God's presence and found evidence of Grace at work in her life and in the world. She was both a strong and generous women who greatly enriched the lives of her family and friends.
Alice is survived by two sons, Paul (Laura), of Stillwater, Minnesota, and Mark (Jennifer), of Galesburg, Illinois. Simply 'Nana' to her six grandchildren, (Evan, Carter, Graham, Emma, David, and Bailey) she will be remembered in love and admiration.
A private memorial service is scheduled at First Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn, Illinois with a private interment to follow at Wheaton Cemetery, Wheaton, IL.
