Obituary

Alice Van Der Molen, age 85, a resident of West Chicago for 35 years, died Thursday, December 1, 2011, peacefully at home. She was born January 16, 1926 in Chicago to Fred and Ella Miedema.

Alice worked at Hotpoint and Plochman Mustard before she married George Van Der Molen in 1945. They lived in Glen Ellyn, Wheaton and West Chicago where they raised four boys. They were founding members of Fellowship Reformed Church in Lombard where they remained active for the life of the church. She was passionate about a number of craft activities, particularly elaborate decorative eggs. She donated much of her art to schools and charities.

She is survived by her husband, George Van Der Molen of West Chicago, three sons, Gary (Karla) of West Chicago, Russell (Leah) of West Chicago and Dennis (Fritzie) of West Chicago, seven grandchildren, Gary J. (Kristen) of North Aurora, Cassandra (Eric) Brooks of Brownsburg, IN, Aaron of West Chicago, Seth of Batavia, Laura (Dan) Meyer of Cedar Lake, IN, Victoria Costanzo and Jared of West Chicago, six great-grandchildren, Brooke, Jason, Logan, Mason, Owen and Aubrey and one sister Johanna Madrigali of Hillside. She had numerous caregivers including Ederlinda, who has been with her almost six years, and also Liza and Marilou.

She was preceded in death by one son, Craig, her parents.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 4, from 1 to 6 pm at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 5, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at Faith Community Church, 910 Main St. in West Chicago, IL 60185. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Faith Community Church.
