Alfred E. Lissy, age 94, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, and formerly a resident of Wheaton, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 16, 2017. He was born March 12, 1923 in Baltimore, MD to Adolf and Martha Lissy.
Al grew up in the streets of Baltimore in a loving home. He attended Patterson Park High School and Baltimore Polytechnic School. Following high school he worked for Glen L. Martins an aircraft manufacturing company in the X-ray section of the inspection division, then when WW II broke out he was drafted into Uncle Sam's army in 1943 where he served in the South Pacific, where he served as an x-ray Technician. After the war he continued to work as an x-ray technician at a hospital in Los Angeles and then at Hines Hospital in Maywood, IL. In 1957 he began a long career at Argonne National Laboratory, where he worked as a Senior Health Physics Technician. His work included heath monitoring, monitoring and consulting on experiments, decommissioning of Plutonium and proper disposal of radioactive waste.
As a young man he met and married Ellenoretta Mathews, the daughter of pastor Lelon and Thelma Mathews in Memphis, TN. They had two sons Edward and David. In January of 1972 he met Ruth Lawrence at Wheaton Bible Church and they were married in May of 1972.
His Christian faith was an important part of his life and he was an active member of Wheaton Bible Church where he is remembered as head usher, a favorite greeter and one of the "Trimmers".
He is survived by his wife, Ruth, his son, David Lissy of Colorado, five grandchildren Brooke, Joel, James, Joshua and Jessica and 5 great-grandchildren Olive, Lincoln, Linden, Payton and Walter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellenoretta, one son, Edward, his parents and one sister, Evelyn.
