Obituary

Aleyamma Joseph, a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and loving friend, passed away comfortably and peacefully at the age of 83 on November 19, 2025 in Chicago, Illinois, surrounded by her family.

Born in Karimkunnam, Kerala, India on May 10, 1942, Aleyamma dedicated her life to her family and her faith, creating a warm and welcoming home for all who knew her. Her memory will be treasured by all whose lives she touched with her generous heart and quiet strength.

Aleyamma married her late husband, Joseph Abraham, in 1960, and immigrated to the United States in 1978, determined to build a better life for her children. She worked in many fields, from camera and tool manufacturing to healthcare, approaching every job with diligence and humility. No matter the task, she carried herself with integrity and a steadfast commitment.

She was known for her exceptional willpower and determination. Her colleagues admired her reliability and gentle spirit. Although she never drove, she faithfully commuted by walking, bus, and train every day, through rain, heat, and the harshest Chicago winters. Providing for her family was her greatest motivation, and she did so with quiet perseverance, never seeking recognition.

Known by her grandchildren as "Rockwell Ammachi", she created a beautiful life on Rockwell Street in Chicago's northside, where she raised her family and built deep roots within her community. She was a woman of faith who always had a strong relationship with the Lord and modeled sacrificial love to her family and those around her. In her later years, she relocated to Tampa, Florida, to embrace the warmth and a more relaxed lifestyle. She involved herself greatly in her local church helping to serve others, before returning to Chicagoland for her final years.

Throughout her life, Aleyamma was known for her genuine hospitality, her gentle spirit, and her devotion to her loved ones. She found joy in the simple pleasures: gardening, long walks, cooking meals for family, and serving her church community with humility and grace. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, resilience, and unconditional love. She is survived by her daughter, Bessy Uthuppan and her husband Stephen Uthuppan and her son, Cyril Jose and his wife Jolly Jose; her five devoted grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
