Alexander L. McPherson, age 87, a resident of Wheaton, Illinois died Friday, January 22, 2010. He was born on January 6, 1923 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Harry and Mabel McPherson.
He is survived by two sons, Harry (Barbara) McPherson of Wheaton, IL and Brian (Kathy) McPherson of Burlington Jct., MO, two grandchildren Timothy (Andrea) McPherson of Glenwood, IA, and Angela (Michael) Lightner of Burlington Jct., MO, and three great-grandsons, Aaron and Brayden McPherson, and Andrew Lightner. He is also survived by one sister, Jane Gray (Tyson) Carpenter of St. Joseph, MO, a sister-in-law, Lorene Triggs, brother-in-law, Vern King, and many nieces, nephews, and an extended family, the Parks, the Has, and the Kims of whom he was very fond. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Thelma McPherson on July 3, 2009.
Mr. McPherson was a graduate of Dartmouth College with a bachelors and masters degree in mechanical engineering. After serving in the U.S. Navy in WWII, he returned to St. Joseph, Missouri where he managed the family farms. Alex met Thelma Stafford on a blind date while she was teaching in Tarkio, MO and they were married a year later in 1951. In July 1967 they moved to Wheaton, IL where he became V.P. of Clow Corporation. In 1982 he retired and worked as a real estate agent. He was an active member of Community Fellowship Church, Rotary Club and a trustee of Midwest Research Institute. He was proud of the many patents that he held in research and development.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 24, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 12:00 noon at Community Fellowship Church, 28W240 North Ave., West Chicago, IL 60185. Interment will be held at Wheaton Cemetery.
