Albert Kaenel, age 90, a resident of Lombard, IL, died Friday, May 5, 2017, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. He was born October 3, 1926 in Hackensack, NJ.

Al was an amazing family man with a zest for life. He retired from AT&T at the age of 55 and served his country twice as a valued member of the United States Army Air Corps. He was kind and comforting with a wonderful sense of humor that was loved by all. His passions included vegetable gardening, casinos, fishing, boating and carpentry. One of his prized accomplishments included a handmade collection of detailed train cars. Above all, he loved his wife. Al and Elsie were inseparable and enjoyed creating memories at their lake house in Eagle River, Wisconsin.

Albert is survived by his wife, Elsie Kaenel; his 2 sisters: Jean Goranson and Mary Jane Powell; his 4 children: Susan Huston, Janet Overland (Ed), Debra Thomas and Robert Pac (Cindy); his 13 grandchildren: Lisa Piontkowski (Dave), Rory Schwartzkopf (Tina), April Lingo (Derek), Julie Brown, Jamie Engelhardt (Ryan), Joe DeLarme, Michele Brooks, Jason Brooks (Kim), Renee Brooks, Robert Pac Jr., Nicole Nelson (Brian), Lauren Wetzel (Joe), and Kayla Pac-Chladek (Mark); as well as 17 great grandchildren and 1 on the way: Jessica Cook, Joe Davis, Cody Davis, Emma Lingo, Sadie Lingo, Brooklyn Brown, Tyler Novak, Bryson Engelhardt, Addison Engelhardt, Nicole Witkowski, Jordan Witkowski, Tommy Witkowski, Brandon Brooks, Grace Brooks, Austin Rose, Alex Rose, Easton Wetzel and Baby Wetzel.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancee Reynolds; and his brothers: Kenneth Kaenel, Robert Kaenel and Richard Kaenel.

A visitation will be held Thursday, May 11, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until the start of a memorial service to be held at 12:30 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. Interment will be private.
