June 20, 1928 – March 5, 2023
Adella June Hohmann age 94, a resident of Wheaton Ill., went to be with the Lord peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 5, 2023.
She was born at home June 20th 1928 near Westgate, Iowa. 6th of 7 daughters of George and Ella(Greening) Schortau. She was baptized July 29th 1928 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Westgate, Iowa. She attended Sumner High School in Iowa and graduated with the class of 1946.
After Graduation she was recruited for employment by Concordia Teachers College in River Forest Ill. Adella was employed as a professional cook and caterer for most of her career, Blacks Catering, Colonial Caterers, and Saga/Aramark Food Service at Wheaton College. She also enjoyed working for 5 Corners Florist by Taylor Austin.
On April 29th 1951 she married "the love of her life" Jerome R Hohmann. They raised 5 children in Wheaton, where they were very involved at St. John's Lutheran Church. At church she served on the Alter Guild and was a member of Joy Group and Afternoon Circle.
Adella enjoyed cooking, flower arranging, cake and fruit decorating, collecting recipes, best known for her Peanut Butter Bars and Cherry Winks. She was an avid gardener as well as a Chicago sports fan. Always with a spirit of Hospitality and Service, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially Holidays and Birthdays.
Her Faith was very important to her, gaining comfort reading the Bible and listening to Christian radio.
She is survived by her four children Edward Paul Hohmann of Wheaton, Chrystel Schortau Hohmann of Idaho, Rita L Hohmann-Graf of Wheaton, Lisa M Hohmann of Wheaton, one Grandson Aaron Elliot Hohmann of Oregon. Brother-In -Law Fred Pink of Arizona, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jerome R Hohmann, son Steven Jerome Hohmann, Son-In-Law Walter T. Graf, one sister in infancy and sisters Ivah and Floyd Lawless, Mildred and J.D. Wilson, Eleanor Gehrke, Helen and Otto Rapp, Dorothy Sommers and Alyce Pink.
A visitation will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, 410 N. Cross St., Wheaton, IL 60187, on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery.
