Thommen Mathew Poozhikunnel, age 62, a resident of Wheaton, entered eternal rest Friday, August 27, 2021.  He was born on July 7th, 1959 in Piravom, Kerala, India.

After completing Polytechnic school in Kerala, he moved to Mumbai and lived there for 4 years. After that, he moved to Illinois and obtained a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from Devry University and a Masters in Computer Science at Illinois Institute of Technology.

After working as a telecommunications engineer for many years he switched to a second career as the owner of his own tax preparation and accounting firm. Outside of his work he also served as the secretary of his parish, St. Gregorios Indian Orthodox Church. During his time in Wheaton, he pursued other passions such as politics and was elected a precinct committeeman in the city. He was also involved as a member of Milton Township Republicans.

He is survived by his wife Beena Poozhikunnel; his children Ashokmathew, Anand-Markose & Kripa-Mariam Poozhikunnel; and his brothers and sisters Leelamma, Sosamma, Chinamma, George, Alias, and Soly.

He was preceded in death by his sister Ammini and his brother Varghese.

A visitation will be held Sunday, August 29, 2021 from 2-7PM at St. Gregorios Malankara Orthodox Church, 905 Kent Ave, Elmhurst, IL 60126. An additional visitation with a funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2021 starting at 9:00 AM at the church. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens West in Oakbrook Terrace.
