IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Paul G.
Togami
August 27, 1932 – May 10, 2021
Sorely missed by family and friends, Paul Goro Togami, 88 years of Wheaton, Illinois went to be with his Lord Monday May 10, 2021. Paul was born in Blanca, Colorado on August 27, 1932. He was the second youngest of 9 children born to Suye (So) Togami and Kameo Togami. Paul married Faith Darlene (Whitney) on June 7, 1958. Together they had six children and shared a life of devotion until Faith's passing on January 15, 2012. Their children, whom deeply mourn him, are: Kay (Norm) Brucer of Crete, Illinois, Kevin (Sheryl) Togami of Warrenville, Illinois, Kai (Wendy) Togami of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Kory (Josie) Togami of Wheaton, Illinois, Karen (Mark) Stankus of West Chicago, Illinois, Kreg (Laura) Togami of Sullivan's Island, South Carolina. He is greatly missed by his 18 grandchildren, their spouses and 22 great-grandchildren. Paul was preceded in death by all his siblings.
Paul graduated from high school in Grants, New Mexico and then from New Mexico State University with a double degree in Agriculture and Mechanical Engineering. He began his career at the Physical Laboratory at White Sands Missile Range recording all information on launched missiles. International Harvester, East Moline, Illinois employed Paul and in 1957 he returned to Las Cruces, New Mexico earning his Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Upon returning to the Quad Cities, he was employed by International Harvester for the design of combines. During his time there, he received 7 patents for design. He "retired" for about six months in 1991, then returned as a consultant for International Harvester well into his 70's.
During his work career he also taught stress and analysis (Element Theory) to engineering students. He designed propulsion engines to drive transfer of power to engine and driving motors of harvesting equipment. He also designed Axial Flow while at International Harvester. Although he worked hard all his life, Paul always had time for his children and grandchildren in their activities. He served as coach, and encourager to children and grandchildren in their many pursuits. He also acted as confidant to his children's many friends. Paul "retired" to take care of Faith who was ill. His commentary on his life was, "It was a good life."
Family and friends describe him as patient, kind, and loving man of faith. All who knew him attested to his humble manner. His family admired the disciplined way he met every challenge with a strong work ethic. Dad was crucial to our family's well-being, but always in a way so as not to draw attention to himself. We are deeply saddened by his death, but we continue to admire who he was, what he believed and how he lived his life. Love you Dad!
