IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Howard Jay
Grimberg
November 17, 1941 – May 9, 2022
Howard Jay Grimberg was welcomed into heaven by his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 9, 2022.
He was born to John and Sylvia Grimberg on November 17, 1941, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Howard grew up in Roseland, Illinois and attended 12 years of Christian education, later he graduated with a BS in Finance from DePaul University. Howard spent 35 years in the banking industry managing Government Securities.
In April of 1962, Howard joined the Navy and served on the USS Boston, CAG 1, Guided Missile Cruiser, he worked his way up during his two years of active duty to become a navigator. He was very proud of his ability to steer that huge ship in exactly the direction it needed to be, and this was back in the day before all of the electronic equipment that are built into today's ships. He concluded his six years of service, two active, four reserve in 1968. Always relishing his opportunity to serve his country and also the added benefit of being assigned to send most of his Naval career in the Mediterranean Sea.
On June 26, 1964, he married the love of his life, Barbara Ostema Grimberg. Together they spent 57 amazing, fun filled year's together enjoying life as it came together, first, through the arrival of their daughter, Kara Agueros in 1967, and two years later their son, Howard Jay junior.
Howard's first love was always his wife and children but a very close second was his love of fishing, never happier than when he could sit in a boat with his fishing pole in hand. He spent many late spring, early summers traveling to Canada, Wisconsin and Minnesota in search of the perfect 10 lb. Walleye, and was fond of saying " let's go drown some worms".
Having the gift of service, Howard was always ready and willing to step in and step up to be of help, wherever he saw a need. In the early years of his career he was a member of the Jay Cee's where he honed his skills of leadership and also tutored children in math. Using the strong resonance of his voice, he was recorded reading for the blind at the Chicago Lighthouse.
He always willingly served on boards and committees of the churches where he and his family where members.
Howard was a man of deep faith, in the late years of his life, challenged by Alzheimer's, he relied heavily on that faith for the strength to navigate the struggles of his disease.
Golfing and golf trips with friends were a great source of enjoyment, until Alzheimer's took that skill away. He was not a big TV watcher, but, his beloved Cubs, golf and the stock market were his desired channels.
Howard is survived by his wife, Barbara, daughter, Kara Agueros, son, Howard jr., grandson, Cody Rood, brothers, John Grimberg (Janna), and Ken Grimberg, and brother-in-law, Dale (Debbie) Ostema. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
