David
Sutton
January 26, 1953 – January 4, 2024
David Sutton, age 70, a resident of Wheaton, IL, passed away January 4, 2024, in Winfield, Illinois. He was born January 26, 1953 in Chicago IL to Samuel and Elaine Sutton. David grew up in Wheaton, IL with his two brothers and one sister. He attended Wheaton Central High School before attending Northern Illinois University. At NIU, he graduated with his associate degree in business.
Dave met his wife Angeline in 1975, after being set up on a blind date. They went on to be married in 1980. Together, Dave and Angie, had a soft spot for animals. They had a German Shepherd & Labrador Retriever mix named "Toby" and later a Siberian Husky "Molly".
Dave worked as a printer for DuPage County for 26 years. He was passionate about this work and made many close friends while working in this field. Before entering the printing field, Dave worked as a volunteer firefighter for the City of Wheaton. He enjoyed staying in touch with fellow volunteer firefighters with monthly dinners. Prior to retirement, Dave worked as a part-time school bus driver, which had been something he had always wanted to do. He would come home with many stories of the students he drove each day. The students on his routes would shower him with treats, cookies and gifts around the holiday season.
Everyone who knew Dave knew how much he loved to garden, collect trains and barbeque. After his children outgrew the playset in the backyard, a vast vegetable garden quickly replaced it. If you visited the Sutton home, you would see a large collection of house plants. Depending on the season, they were either set outside to soak up the sun, or closely cared for indoors. His uncles worked for the railroad, and this sparked a lifelong fascination for trains. As a result, Dave had an expansive collection of trains. For several years, he would set up a train below the Christmas tree to surprise his children on Christmas Day. Dave was a proud grill master and always enjoyed grilling whenever he could. This persisted rain or shine. He would prepare steaks on the grill in a blizzard, without batting an eye.
In 1987, Dave became an active member of the Glen Ellyn Masonic Lodge 950. He formed many close friendships and enjoyed participating in philanthropic events. Dave was in numerous parades with different groups such as Arab patrol, mini choppers and the hillbillies. He was very proud of the Masons and Shriners and loved involving his family in their events.
Dave and Angie welcomed their first child, Amanda, in 1994 and their second child, David, in 1997. Dave was always a cheerleader for both of his children. He attended most, if not all, baseball, basketball, football and softball games. He also always attended Amanda's horseback riding lessons and later on barrel racing lessons. Dave especially enjoyed participating in dog obedience with his dogs growing up. This was something Amanda became eager to learn as well. He loved seeing her work with her dogs in obedience and agility. Dave and David enjoyed attending car shows, especially the once weekly Vintage Car show in downtown Wheaton. David learned basic mechanical skills from his dad and cars were always a shared interest of theirs. Dave was always supportive and encouraging of both David and Amanda in their goals in both their professional and personal growth.
He is survived by his wife, Angeline Sutton of 43 years, his two children Amanda & David Sutton. Brothers Samuel Sutton, and Lewis Sutton. He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel & Elaine Sutton and his sister Rebecca Sutton.
