Branch Geoffrey Pierce's Obituary

Branch Geoffrey Pierce, age 65, a resident of Lisle, IL, died Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at Edward Hospital in Naperville, Illinois. He was born August 31, 1952 in St. Charles, IL.

Geoff grew up in Wheaton, IL. He attended Holmes Elementary School, Franklin Jr. High and Wheaton North High School, graduating in 1970. He was a member of the Wheaton Youth Symphony where he played trombone. In high school, Geoff was on the football team and tennis team.

Geoff proudly followed in his father's footsteps when he attended college at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, NE. And like his father he joined the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Geoff went on to earn a Masters Degree in Environmental Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Geoff worked for several companies utilizing his environmental engineering degree, including Nalco Chemical in Naperville. But he always wanted to work for Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont and in 1991 he got his wish. Geoff dedicated himself to the environmental compliance group, serving 8 years as the group leader. Geoff touched so many at Argonne thoughout his years there. In 1995, on an inspection walkthrough, Geoff met his wife Linda.

Geoff was passionate about spending time with his family. They loved winter ski/snowboard trips Up North and water ski/tubing/wakeboarding in Lake Geneva on their boat. Many spring breaks were spent on the beach at Gulf Shores, AL. Every summer without a miss, they spent a quiet week fishing, swimming and relaxing at Camp Nawakwa in WI, a compromise with Linda between a hotel (Geoff's preference) and tenting (Linda's preference). When Ben and Billy were in the Cub Scouts, Geoff served a stint as the Pack Scout Master. He especially enjoyed the Pinewood Derby. Geoff was a great cook and took pride in concocting his own sauces, like Daddy's Secret Sauce and Pasta Sauce. He loved to pass on his culinary skills, especially grilling, to his sons. Geoff also enjoyed playing his guitar and commuting to work on his bicycle. He was an avid and dedicated White Sox fan. He enjoyed having pets including dogs, cats, geckos, lizards, etc. Most of all Geoff had a big heart. He was always friendly, taking the time to find out how others were, even when he wasn't feeling well himself.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Linda Shem Pierce of Lisle; his two sons, Ben and Billy Pierce; his sister, Deborah (Bob Fine) Pierce; his cousins, Barbara (Basil) Brassfield, Suzanne Powell, Jay Powell, and Frederic (Barbara) Bunge; and many many inlaws.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Edna Pierce.
