Elaine Yoder, age 94, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, IL, died Saturday, September 21, 2013, at Windsor's Johnson Health Care Center in Carol Stream, IL. She was born January 5, 1919 at home near Urbana, OH.
Elaine grew up on several farms just outside of Urbana, OH. As a young girl she attended the Kingscreek Baptist Church. When she was in high school she was on the county championship Salem High School women's basketball team in Kingscreek, OH. Subsequently women's basketball was discontinued in Ohio for years. After graduating from high school in 1937, she attended Miami-Jacobs College and received a "Higher Accountancy" degree in 1938. Before marrying Roy Eldon Yoder in 1941, she worked for the Ohio Farm Bureau Insurance Company in Columbus, OH. She then worked for the General Motors Acceptance Corporation which is Ally Bank today. After 1950 she and Roy started the family business: the Yoder Farm Equipment Co. Through the years all of Elaine's children remember working at various tasks within the company. They retired in 1978 and sold the business. After retirement she enjoyed traveling with Roy, visiting her family, caring for her mother and spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After Roy died she moved into Windsor Park in Carol Stream, IL.
She is survived by three children, Keith (Arleen) Yoder of Wheaton, IL, Bruce (Earlina) Yoder of Wake Forest, NC, and Karen (Maurice) Clark of Woodville, OH; six grandchildren, John (Suzanne) Yoder and Christine (Flavio) Escareno, Kyle (Soma) Yoder and Kerri (Bryan) Hubbard, and Laura (Eric) deWeber and Nathan (Abby) Clark; 16 great-grandchildren, Caleb, Annika, Ethan, Gabriel, Arabela, Aaron, Alexia and Aksel, Blake and Kyle, Blaine, Lydia, Clark, Isabelle, Judah and Vera; her sister-in-law, Roselle Kauffman; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Roy; and two brothers, Paul and Samuel Warye.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of a funeral service to be held at 11:00 a.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. Interment will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery in West Liberty, OH.
