Ralph J. Velasco, age 76, a resident of St. Charles, IL, passed away on September 14, 2012, at Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva, IL. He was born January 3, 1936, in Chicago, IL.
Ralph was the first franchise owner of Brown’s Chicken. He opened three additional franchises in the Chicago area and in Tampa, FL. Upon closing his Brown's Chicken franchise in Niles, IL, he built, owned, and operated a northern Italian cuisine restaurant named il Bacio (the Kiss) in Niles, IL. Ralph was a valued and well-respected employee of the Home Depot on Schmale Rd. in Carol Stream, IL for the last six years.
Ralph was a proud veteran who faithfully and honorably served his country in the United States Navy. He was an avid golfer and former member of Park Ridge Country Club. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and found relaxation and pride in wood-working.
Ralph is survived by his adoring wife, Mary Catherine; children Victoria (Roger) Hominick of Rockford, IL, and Ralph A. Velasco of Corona del Mar, CA; grandchildren Christina Marie (Hominick) Childress and Eric Roger Hominick; great-granddaughter Annibelle Rose Marie Childress; siblings Phyllis (Velasco) Drella and John Velasco; and former wife, Ida M. Velasco. Ralph is preceded in death by his parents, Espiridion and Mercedes Velasco, both originally from Chicago, IL. Ralph leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. We all will miss him. We are grateful for the opportunity to have loved him and been loved by him.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 28, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. at Wheaton Evangelical Free Church, 520 E. Roosevelt Road, Wheaton, Illinois 60187. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the family.
