Paul A. Sweas, a resident of West Chicago, IL died at the age of 59 on March 23, 2012, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL after a sudden illness. He was born February 9, 1953 in Chicago to John and Helen Sweas.
He graduated from St. Rita High School in 1971, DePaul University in 1975, and earned a Master's degree in Taxation from the University of Denver. On September 9, 1978 he married Elaine Peterson. For the majority of Paul's career, he was self-employed as a CPA and financial planner, most recently in Downers Grove, IL. He was actively involved with a number of ministries including Wheaton Bible Church, Alpha USA, Opportunity International, and National Christian Foundation, to name a few. He was passionate about sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and helping others develop a biblical perspective on money.
Paul had a fervent love for baseball, expressed in his playing and coaching of the game as well as his fanaticism for the Chicago White Sox. He loved visiting the beaches of southern California and skiing in the Colorado Rockies with his family and friends.
Paul's legacy continues through his wife, Elaine Sweas of West Chicago, three children, Kristen (Eric) Fenton of Chicago, Robert (Krista) Sweas of St. Charles, and Karin Sweas of Huntington Beach, CA, two grandchildren, Juliana Sweas and Natalie Fenton, two brothers, Gerald (Sharleen Barron) Sweas of Glenview and James Sweas of Santa Barbara, CA, mother-in-law, Mae Peterson, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ronald and Debra Peterson, nieces and a nephew, and other family and close friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 9:30 am at Wheaton Bible Church 27W500 North Ave., West Chicago, IL.
As Paul was personally and professionally invested in helping individuals leverage their financial resources for Christian ministry, the family is asking that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be directed to "National Christian Foundation” to further the mission of the ministries Paul supported. Please write “The Sweas Family Foundation Fund” on the memo line followed by one of the four ministries mentioned above (Alpha/Opportunity/Moody/NCF).
