Harold "Bill" Miller, age 76, a resident of Winfield for 44 years, died Friday, November 4 surrounded by his family, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois. He was born on March 2, 1935 in Sacramento, CA to Carl and Amada Miller.
Bill served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. While he was stationed in Huntsville, Alabama he met Frances Dunn whom he married on June 14, 1956. He graduated from University of California Berkley with a Masters in Electrical Engineering. After college he worked at Lawrence Radiation Laboratory on the design of Fermi Lab. In 1968, he moved to Winfield to continue work at Fermi Lab. He retired in 1995. He was an active member of the Winfield United Methodist Church and West Chicago Methodist Church.
He was an artist who enjoyed working in watercolors and woodcarving. His work as a trustee at church used his unique ability to fix anything and his enjoyment of working outdoors. He loved to travel and was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Fran, four children, Patti Miller of Winfield, Burt (Misa) Miller of Washington D.C., John (Debby) Miller of Wheaton and Linda (Ben) Hildreth of Houston, TX, four grandchildren, Payton, Paige, Aiden and Johnny, and one sister, Sharon (Carlos) Magana of Cottonwood, AZ. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Pat (Elwyn) Dobbs and their children. He will be greatly missed by his family and all of his "adopted" children.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Bill Jr.
A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, November 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 8, at 4:00 P.M. at Winfield United Methodist Church, 0S347 Jefferson, Winfield, IL 60190.
