Beatrice E. Horne, age 91, a resident of the Wheaton area since 1960, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, February 23. She was born July 16, 1921 to John and Pearl Beck.
Bea grew up in Lansing, Michigan and graduated from Nyack College in Nyack, NY with a sacred music major. She married Rev. Charles Horne in 1949. They moved to Wheaton when Dr. Horne began to work at Moody Bible Institute. Later he taught at Wheaton College, where Bea went on to work as a secretary in the History Department. She retired when she was 77.
They were members of Bethel Presbyterian Church and later she was active at Wheaton Bible Church. Her faith in Jesus defined her life and she shared her faith with all she met. She loved using her musical gifts at church. She enjoyed traveling and traveled throughout Asia to visit her sisters on the mission field.
She is survived by her children, Steve (Amy) Horne of Glen Ellyn, John (Leisa) Horne of AR, and Caroline Perry of Wheaton, six grandchildren, Jennifer (Peter) Matos, Nathan (Amanda) Horne, Megan (Shelby) Shannon, Ryan Nibblet, Savannah Perry and Noah Perry, and two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Evan Matos. She is also survived by her sister, Bernadine (Ivan) Lay and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles in 1979 and her sister, Jean Ellison.
A visitation will be held on Monday, February 25, from 9 to 11 at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, where a funeral service will follow at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens West in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois.
