Richard J. Sanders

U.S. Veteran

Richard J. Sanders, age 82, a resident of Elmhurst, IL, died Friday, January 4, 2013, at St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, IL. He was born February 27, 1930 in Oak Park, IL.

He had a number of jobs throughout his life. He worked for the railroad for 50 years, but his other jobs included driving a taxi, working as a banker, and doing sonar in a submarine during the Korean War. He was a member of the Shriner's Club as well as the Kaiser Club and the Masons. Some of the many things he enjoyed were traveling to many exciting places, being a hunter /outdoorsman, exploring the un-beaten path, going to a baseball game, working on cars, electrical work, tinkering with handy-man work, dancing, magic and card tricks, listening to big-band music, laughing and enjoying a good time with family and friends.

He is survived by his children, Sharon Sanders of Wheaton, IL, and Ernie Sanders of Bensenville, IL; his step-children, Tony (Judy) Greco of Elmhurst, IL and Mike (Lisa) Greco of Snellville, GA; two grandchildren, Jacob and Carol Sanders; his sister, Marjorie Kuhns; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carole; two brothers, Ernest and Robert Sanders; and his sister, Dorothy.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of a funeral service to be held at 4:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. Interment will be private.
