Elizabeth

Elizabeth (Betty) Marx

Elizabeth Rushton was born June 17, 1922 to Raymond and Ruth Rushton in Oak Park, IL. Though she grew up during the Great Depression, she had three little brothers and wonderful parents who helped come up with adventures that didn’t cost a penny!

She married Robert Marx on October 10, 1941. In 1950, as a result of a severe kidney infection, she was hospitalized. Her doctor explained the sacrifice Jesus made for her, and she placed her trust in Him. The rest of her life was spent serving Christ in her home, at their church, at Camp Willabay and among her neighbors. Her life revolved around the little church that started in their living room, Pleasant Hill Community Church, for many years. Robert (Bob) was the organist and she was the church secretary.

In 1978 she moved to Carol Stream where she was actively involved in neighborhood ladies Bible studies. She also became “Grandma” to eight grandchildren born between 1982-1990. In 2000 she moved to Pinecrest Community in Mt Morris, IL for additional help in her battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Betty was set free from the prison of Alzheimer’s, which held her hostage for 15 years, on Dec 25, 2012.

She is survived by five children: John (Rhoda) Marx of Waxhaw, NC; Barbara Marx of Oregon, IL; Douglas (Connie) Marx of Batavia, IL; Carol (Jeffrey) Wood of Colorado Springs, CO; and Ginny Russell of Waterman, IL. She is survived by eight grandchildren and two brothers: Bruce (Joy) Rushton of Poplar Grove, IL and Paul (Lois) Rushton of Sister Bay, WI. She was pre-deceased by Robert Marx.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Dec 27 at 1:00 pm at Pleasant Hill Community Church, 26W401 Geneva Rd, Wheaton, IL.

Gifts in memory of Betty may be given to: Pleasant Hill Community Church Missions Fund (26W401 Geneva Rd, Wheaton, IL 60187) or Pinecrest Community (414 S. Wesley Ave, Mt. Morris, IL. 61054)
