Lois Cory was born in Chicago on May 14, 1927. She went to heaven as she slept on Nov. 16, 2012. She had outlived five of her six siblings.
Lois and her family moved from Chicago to Glen Ellyn in 1947 and attended the Wheaton Bible Church for many years where she served when Pastor Cronk was the pastor. She headed up the Jr. Department, sang in the choir and initiated a class called TNT--singles in their 20’s and 30’s. Lois also worked in the Accounting Department of Wheaton College and Scripture Press. She attended the Moody Bible Institute and graduated in 1955. She then served as Director of Christian Education at a church in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
When her father passed away in 1958 she returned to Wheaton to meet the needs of her mother. She loved teaching children so she received her teaching degree from Northern Illinois and joined the Wheaton School District where she taught at the Jefferson School. Lois is remembered for her teaching career because she got more from the children than they meant to give but gave more of herself than she had to.
Lois married Lloyd Cory in 1980. In 1985 they retired and moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas where they enjoyed swimming, hiking and tennis—the team she captained was state champs twice. She taught a weekly Bible class, and led the church’s choir which grew from 6 to 33. After 17 years in Arkansas, Lois and Lloyd moved to Go Ye Village in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
Lois is survived by her husband Lloyd, sister, Verna Sheaffer (Jack) and many nieces and nephews; three stepchildren, Steven Cory, Jan Spoelman and Peter Cory as well as several step-grandchildren and great-step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, sisters Esther Vogt, Carol Neumann; brothers Warren, Charles and David and Lloyd’s daughter, Marcia Cory.
A brief service of committal will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery in Glen Ellyn at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15. Refreshments will be served at the Shaeffer's home in Wheaton. All are invited to the service and/or the visitation.
Gifts in Lois’ memory may be made to Golden Years, Go Ye Village, 1201 West 4th Street, Tahlequah, OK 74464
