Brenda Leanne Rozema, a resident of Maryland Heights, Missouri, died unexpectedly on November 26, 2012, at home, following a brief illness. She was 37 years old. She was born Brenda Lee Matlow on August 29, 1975 in Chicago and was adopted by the Rozema family on June 29, 1984 in Chicago.
After graduating from Wheaton Academy in 1994, Brenda earned a B.A. in Art from Judson College in 1998. She worked most recently at Macy’s in Bridgeton, Missouri as a call center operator. She had previously worked for Cingular Wireless in Schaumburg, Illinois in the same capacity. She attended church at Grace Community in Maryland Heights, Missouri and had previously been a part of Willow Creek Community Church and Wheaton Christian Reformed Church.
Brenda was a talented artist. She made many beautiful art pieces which she sold or gave as gifts. Brenda also joined and communicated with adoption support groups in her quest to find her birth family. She did eventually find and develop relationships with the Matlows, which was a major milestone in her life. Reconnecting shortly before her birth mother passed away was a special grace for everyone.
She will be sorely missed by all who loved her. She made many friends in many places in all areas of her life. In all these friendships she was steadfast, loyal, and fun. Her laugh and her sense of play will be missed. She loved her Savior, Jesus, and was always courageous to share her faith and convictions. Because of that faith, she knew what was true and she walked by that truth.
She is survived by her parents, John and Linda Rozema; her siblings, Mark Rozema and Lisa (Rozema) Neumann; her brother-in-law, Scott Neumann; her nieces and nephews, John, Sarah, Yuri, and Hannah Neumann; her grandmother Annie Hogan; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is also survived by many members of her birth family including her siblings Edna (Matlow) Krafft, Billy Matlow, Pete Weber, Paul Matlow and Bellen Matlow. She was preceded in death by her birth mother, Edna Mae Matlow.
