Nancy Abels Wittekind

Nancy Abels Wittekind, age 74, a resident of Winfield, IL, died Sunday, August 19, 2012, at home in Winfield, IL. She was born March 30, 1938 in Chicago, IL.

Nancy graduated from York Community High School in Elmhurst, IL and then from Knox College in Galesburg, IL with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She was married in 1960 to her first husband, Larry Abels. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Elmhurst for many years and most recently was a member of First Baptist Church of Wheaton. She married her second husband, Edward Wittekind, in 1999. She loved to travel and was an avid quilter.

She is survived by her second husband, Edward Wittekind of Winfield, IL; four children, Deborah (Joel) Cramer of Avon, IN, Cheryl (Brian) Thompson of South Elgin, IL, Steven Abels of Indianapolis, IN, and Susan (John) Bieker of Minooka, IL; three step-children, Barbara (Gene) Frost of Wheaton, IL, Nancy (Mike) Mauriello of Winfield, IL, and Wendy (Frank) Fernandes of W. Chicago, IL; eleven grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; her sister, Carol (James) Knapp; her brother, Thomas (Cheryl) Brown; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Larry Abels; her parents, Victor and Frances Brown; and her niece, Michelle Knapp.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Wheaton, 1310 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL 60187, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst, IL.
