Robert W. “Bob” Back, 75, of Carol Stream, IL, died peacefully on Thursday July 5, 2012 after a sudden stroke. Bob was born on Dec. 22, 1936, in Omaha, Nebraska. He was a graduate of Trinity College, Hartford, earned an MA in International Relations at Yale, and studied further at the London School of Economics and Harvard. He served in the Air Force as an intelligence officer during the cold war. In his professional life, he worked as an investment analyst and financial advisor at multiple firms in downtown Chicago as well as with his own firm in the western Chicago suburbs. Bob was very active in community and professional organizations up until his death. He was an intellectually curious, gregarious, and delightful character who relished engaging with friends and loved ones in fellowship. He will be greatly missed. Bob is survived by his son Christopher Back of Boulder of CO; son Gregory (Jeanne) Back of CA,and granddaughter Lauren (to whom he was beloved ‘Gamepa’), of Hillsborough, CA; sister Marilyn Anderson of Denver, CO; and his former wife, Linaya Hahn of Longmont, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Edith Back, and brother, Richard Back. He was a longtime resident first of Buffalo Grove, IL, where he raised his sons, and then of Wheaton, IL, where he was a member for decades of First Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Jefferson and Ellis Streets, Wheaton, Illinois on July 9, 2012 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association and The Rotary Club of Wheaton.
